A Report of the World Habitat Day Observation at MIDAS on 3rd October 2011

The United Nations has designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day, and in the current year, the observation is on 3 October 2011. The theme for WHD 2011 is “Cities and Climate Change”, and aims to look at the impact of cities in creating climate change, and, in turn, the impact of climate disruption on cities, and what cities are doing about it. The greatest repercussions of climate disasters both begin and end in cities. The official statement of UN Habitat urges stakeholders to reflect on how to turn our cities – arguably the greatest achievements of human civilisation – into better cities for the future.

The World Habitat Day observation at MIDAS on October 3rd 2011 was in lines with the official theme for the year, “Cities and Climate Change”. The event was sponsored by MARG Group. As a precursor to the event, a poster competition was organised on September 28, 2011 from 11 AM till 3 PM at MIDAS campus for MIDAS fraternity. The competition was open to MIDAS staff and students and other members of the larger MARG fraternity. The theme for the competition was “GO Green” and the winning entry will be used as the motif for MIDAS T- shirt. The jury for the competition was Mr. M. P Manohar, an alumnus of NID Ahmedabad, with several years of experience in visual communication, handicrafts and professional model making.
